Baby Progress: Week 33

How far along? 33 weeks

Total weight gain/loss: About 15 lbs

Maternity clothes? I bought the dress in my weekly photo from Old Navy on Saturday. It’s comfy, but fits like a tent (WHY do so many maternity clothes fit like this? it is extremely unflattering). I used a belt from another top to cinch it in at the waist.

Stretch marks? Nope

Symptoms: Just a few occurrences of having to pee RIGHT.THIS.SECOND. when she moves into certain positions (probably laying directly on my bladder…). Runny nose (again).

Sleep:  Sleep is OK. I’m still waking up at night when she has a hiccup episode or decides to start moving around a ton.

Best moment this week:
We purchased a bunch of things off our hidden Amazon registry for the completion discount (the prices are usually better than Target it seems). So the Amazon fairy has been very busy delivering packages to the house every day this week! So. much. stuff.

Worst moment of the week: Nothing really. I guess just being pretty sleepy.

Have you told family and friends: Yes

Miss Anything? A massive iced coffee. Doesn’t that sound amazing in the hot summer?

Movement: Still stretching out a bit, but fewer episodes of sticking her foot into my hip, thankfully. She gets hiccup episodes 2-3x per day it seems. I think she’s still breech (or transverse) based on where I feel the hiccups.

Food cravings: Anything with sugar. Trying to stick with fruit versus candy, but I’ll have to indulge a bit for the 4th of July weekend.

Anything making you queasy or sick: Not really, as long as I can avoid strong smells.

Have you started to show yet: Yep

Gender:  Girl

Labor Signs: No
. Starting to wonder if I am going to feel some Braxton Hicks contractions soon?

Belly Button in or out? Out

Wedding rings on or off? On

Happy or Moody most of the time: Happy

Looking forward to: A relaxing 4th of July weekend and organizing/finding a place to put all of our newly acquired baby gear…

Baby Progress: Week 32

How far along? 32 weeks

Total weight gain/loss: Up about 15 pounds, same as last week. Eating more than a small meal is painful.

Maternity clothes? Just wearing the same old stuff, but I have been recently looking out for a pair of linen or palazzo-type pants that I can easily throw on with a t-shirt for leaving the hospital and post partum visitors. I guess they don’t necessarily need to be maternity pants, but either have an elastic waistband or ties.

Stretch marks? Nope

Symptoms: I’ve felt very pregnant this week, if that makes sense. Definitely really starting to feel the limitations of moving around. Also an itchy belly, and it doesn’t matter how much lotion I lather on! I guess this makes sense since she should be gaining on average a 1/2 pound PER WEEK from here on out. Eep!

Sleep:  Still going to bed early and getting up early.

Best moment this week:
We’re officially halfway through 2015 and I am at 94% of my weightlifting goal (1 million pounds). I didn’t really expect to almost be meeting my goal already (knowing that I was pregnant when I set the goal in January) but I guess a lot of leg days will get you there quickly!

Worst moment of the week: Awful acid reflux in the middle of the night after eating greasy Papa John’s pizza last weekend.

Have you told family and friends: Yes

Miss Anything? Going up a flight of stairs without getting out of breath. Tying my shoes comfortably.

Movement: Still moving around a ton. Even the midwife commented on her movement when she was checking her heartbeat via doppler at my appointment this week. She still gets into this habit of stretching out and shoving her foot (?) directly into my right hip bone which makes me wince. It doesn’t necessarily hurt, it’s just super uncomfortable. I *think* she’s still breech.

Food cravings: Ugh, nothing really. Eating has become fairly uncomfortable. Eating anything larger than a small meal just leaves me in pain. I guess she is taking up the room previously occupied by my stomach.

Anything making you queasy or sick: Certain smells this week (in the grocery store, in a parking lot) have made me feel like I’m going to be sick any second.
I’ll be so glad when that symptom of pregnancy is gone!

Have you started to show yet: Yep. Getting asked fairly frequently when I’m due.

Gender:  Girl

Labor Signs: No

Belly Button in or out? Out. As in out of control.

Wedding rings on or off? On

Happy or Moody most of the time: Happy

Looking forward to: Hanging out with some friends a bit this weekend and then going out to dinner to celebrate David’s promotion!

Baby Progress: Week 31

How far along? 31 weeks

Total weight gain/loss: about 15 lbs

Maternity clothes? I’ve been pretty good about not buying anything new 🙂 It was HOT in Atlanta this week, so really I’ve been wearing whatever is comfortable. Even if that means my belly is hanging out the bottom of my tank when I’m going to bed…

Stretch marks? Nope

Symptoms: Is it possible to die from heartburn? Or overdose on Tums? Asking for a friend.

Sleep:  I’ll have a night or two of really crappy sleep and then other nights I’ll be completely fine.

Best moment this week:
Finished writing thank you cards

Worst moment of the week: David’s uncle passed away suddenly this week. He had ALS, but was only 55 years old. His aunt is also under hospice care right now and is not doing very well, so it’s a tough time for his parents.

Have you told family and friends: Yes

Miss Anything? Back squats (with the bar). Please send out a search party for my booty.

Movement: Let’s just say I feel like she’s trying to open her own yoga studio in my uterus. Certain times I wonder if she is trying to flip head down because it’s like Sigourney Weaver in “Alien”. Let’s just say it feels really…weird? And even uncomfortable at times.

Food cravings: Strawberries and french toast, but not together.

Anything making you queasy or sick: Nah

Have you started to show yet: Yes. In this week’s picture I am asking myself why I thought it was a good idea to buy a maternity top with horizontal stripes???

Gender:  Girl

Labor Signs: No

Belly Button in or out? Out

Wedding rings on or off? On

Happy or Moody most of the time: Happy

Looking forward to: Just hanging out with family for Father’s Day!

Kitchen Facelift Update

Continuing along the journey of our slowest kitchen “renovation” ever, the next big step was replacing the old Corian countertops. Most people probably don’t mind Corian since it is a solid surface material (no seams!), but our counters were in rough shape and the color made the kitchen look pretty dated. Out with the old and in with the new!

After looking at a lot of images online and in Home Depot and Lowe’s we decided on Black Pearl granite. In our area, it was priced in the high $30s up to $50 a square foot. We settled on using Legacy Granite, and they quickly came out and created the template and were ready to install the granite just a few days later.

Unfortunately WE were not ready for them that quickly. We also purchased a new gas cooktop (since it would require a custom sized cut), but quickly found out that the existing cooktop did not have a separate gas shut off valve. In order to disconnect the old cooktop we had to turn off the gas to our entire house, which was a total PITA. This is probably against code, so we had a handyman come out and install a shut off valve just for the cooktop. Problem solved!

New cooktop — Kenmore Elite gas downdraft

The actual installation of the granite turned out great, but then it was on us to put the rest of the kitchen back together. After multiple trips to Home Depot, we finally got the right parts to hook up the cooktop again (it’s a little trickier than a normal cooktop since it has a downdraft vent). Then we decided that we were not capable of DIYing putting our sink and disposal back together. We needed someone to hook up the new faucet, re-attach the garbage disposal, and re-configure all of the pipes below the sink since we had gone from a 2 bowl sink to a single bowl sink. Among all of this mess, we probably went a week and a half without a functioning sink in our kitchen. Not recommended!

New sink and faucet — Delta Leland Single-Handle Pull-Down Sprayer in Arctic Stainless. Sink was provided by the granite fabricators.

Finally the last thing to address was the dreaded “gap”. We had been warned that there would be a small gap between the bottom of the backsplash and the top of the new granite counters since they were thinner than the existing Corian. I kept thinking it wouldn’t be that big of a deal and we’d just put in some caulk and call it a day. Well the gap turned out to be more noticeable than expected. The short term solution was to cover the gap along the entire stretch of counters with a small piece of moulding. We bought the moulding, painted it and then installed it just with some strong adhesive. Eventually we would like to replace the backsplash, but it could end up being somewhat costly since it needs to be removed, the drywall needs to be replaced, and then the new backsplash would be installed.

So after all of that a simple job of replacing the counters turned into a much bigger ordeal than we originally anticipated. It was definitely worth the effort, but we were both ready to pull our hair out with one thing after another slowing us down from the “final” reveal.

Of course we have to look back at the (way) before — this is from closing day.

Closing Day

And here we are today, almost 4 years later with new wall paint, refinished floors, painted cabinets, and now new countertops, cooktop, sink and faucet.

We’ll slowly work on replacing the rest of the appliances to stainless steel since most of them are original to the house and don’t work all that well. Plus it will help break up so much of the black everywhere!

Baby Progress: Week 30

How far along? 30 weeks

Total weight gain/loss: Almost 14 pounds

Maternity clothes? Just wearing the usual stuff. I am about ready to retire my maternity jeans because they just aren’t all that comfortable anymore.

Stretch marks? Nope

Symptoms: Acne, peeing every hour, and TIRED. What is this, 1st trimester again??? Just starting to feel uncomfortable more often.

Sleep:  Sleep has been just OK. I am ready to pass out at like 9:30pm (and sometimes I do…), but then I wake up at 4:30am tossing and turning and not really falling back into a deep sleep.

Best moment this week:
My shower! It was nice and laid back. And they told me at my 30 week appointment that my placenta previa has been resolved. Woo! Baby girl is right at 3 lbs, and still breech (and I’m pretty sure I can feel where her head is, usually right next to my belly button). I am kind of bummed that I don’t get the frequent ultrasounds and updates on her size now!

Worst moment of the week: Just a random crying meltdown on Saturday afternoon after running around cleaning and trying to prep the house for the shower. Thanks pregnancy hormones! >:O

Have you told family and friends: Yes

Miss Anything? Sleeping on my stomach

Movement: She’s still wiggling around a bunch in there, but not quite as many hiccup episodes this week

Food cravings: Anything with sugar! I basically insist on a daily sugar fix whether it’s in the form of chocolate, an ice cream sandwich, or just some fruit.

Anything making you queasy or sick: Nothing in particular

Have you started to show yet: Yes. And getting more comments from coworkers that are along the lines of “you didn’t look pregnant a few weeks ago when I saw you”. Hopefully I don’t completely balloon out over the next 2 months because I am already uncomfortable. People who have twins or multiples, I don’t know how you do it…

Gender:  Girl

Labor Signs: No

Belly Button in or out? Out. Is it a faux pas that you can see my belly button through my shirt at work? Not sure what to do about that or if it grosses people out.

Wedding rings on or off? On

Happy or Moody most of the time: In between. I can go from happy to moody in 0.2 seconds (literally my crying meltdown was like 30 seconds after this week’s photo was taken).
Also I keep getting annoyed at people telling me how nice it will be to take 6 months off work. Did everyone fail math/calendar reading? Mid-August (and late August, more likely..) to the end of the year is barely over 4 months. I wish I were taking 6 months off!

Looking forward to: The baby’s room is a disaster zone after the shower so I’m actually looking forward to getting things put together, put away, and then working on some of the more finishing touches like wall art.

“Mom to Bee” Baby Shower

My sister and my mother-in-law put together a great shower for me this weekend. It was “bee” themed, with bee decorations, bee cupcakes, and honey favors. It was pretty laid back, which was perfect as I don’t really like a lot of attention or fuss! I ended up not taking a single photo, so I have to give lots of credit to friends and family who grabbed my camera during the festivities.

The spread — veggies and caesar salads in a cup, deli roll ups, mac and cheese bites, mini BLTs, pulled pork sandwiches, and fresh fruit

Gifts for our baby girl 🙂

Friend shot

Family shot

Exactly how I felt after the end of all of it! Exhausted!

Baby Progress: Week 29

How far along? 29 weeks

Total weight gain/loss: About 13.5 pounds

Maternity clothes? Wearing mostly maternity stuff, with some non-maternity dresses and fold over skirts thrown in. My maternity workout capris are starting to not fit that well, but I reallly don’t want to buy anything else.

Stretch marks? Nope.

Symptoms: A little more tired lately and definitely getting out of breath quicker when I’m working out and going up and down the stairs. A little bit of heartburn. Growing pains/and general uncomfortable-ness occasionally.

Sleep:  Sleep has been fine, actually. Little miss hiccups is functioning as my internal alarm clock these days.

Best moment this week:
Nothing in particular?

Worst moment of the week: Again, nothing in particular. Just an ordinary week 😛

Have you told family and friends: Yes

Miss Anything? Tying my shoelaces without feeling like I am going to pass out from not being able to breathe!

Movement: Still bouncing around in there. I’m trying to figure out what position she is in based on the movement, but I’m not sure.

Food cravings: French toast! I finally made some the other day since our cooktop is back in business.

Anything making you queasy or sick: David was watching one of those real-life medical shows on TV and it just really grossed me out. I am not normally TOO bothered by those things, but it was just eww.

Have you started to show yet: Yes, and getting a lot more comments about it too. I just got a comment this week from a coworker who hadn’t seen me in a couple of weeks that noticed my bump. When I told her I was due in mid August she was pretty surprised. I know I am not huge but I am definitely starting to *feel* much bigger lately. I’m curious to know what my 30 week ultrasound will have her weighing in at. Also got another “hey momma” cat call walking into Target (*eye roll*) and then TWO comments along the lines of “It’s a boy, right? Since you’re carrying small.” Ermmm sorry, you’re wrong. Awkward.

Gender:  Girl

Labor Signs: No

Belly Button in or out? Out I guess? I don’t know, it just looks weird but since it’s showing through my shirts I guess that’s an outie.

Wedding rings on or off? On

Happy or Moody most of the time: Happy

Looking forward to: My shower!

Baby Progress: Week 28

How far along? 28 weeks

Total weight gain/loss: Up about 12.5 pounds. I feel like I’m already getting a “mom butt” but I think it’s because my waist is essentially disappearing as my belly gets bigger.

Maternity clothes? Got a few maternity tops at Target over Memorial Day weekend on sale. But I’ll try to stick it out from now on without buying anything else…I promise!

Stretch marks? Nope

Symptoms: Just some pelvic pain, which is probably due to the fact that I am carrying super low? Or I might look into a support belt if the pain gets worse.

Sleep:  Sleeping has gotten harder lately, so of course this has put me in a cranky mood.

Best moment this week:
Our granite counters were finally installed and I love them, along with the new undermount sink and stainless steel cooktop. Man I am NOT at all jealous of the installers. They were huffing and puffing carrying everything into the house and setting things in to place. I also had a few of the ladies at the gym gushing over me telling me how amazing I looked (which was actually kind of embarrassing!), but then one of them said that I was “inspiring”. Well that’s kind of cool and really nice. I mean I’ve been working my butt off since way before becoming pregnant so I might as well continue while I still have the energy!

Worst moment of the week: Similarly, I’ve also gotten less-than glowing comments at the gym, like “are you sure you can lift weights while pregnant?”. Um yeah dude, and besides, these dumbbells are only 15 pounds. Then he followed that up with saying that it looks like someone taught me how to lift weights anyway, so I’m probably fine. Thanks. I taught myself. Grr.

Have you told family and friends: Yes

Miss Anything? Nah not really.

Movement: Yep, even a few episodes of feeling her with the hiccups this week!

Food cravings: Ice cream

Anything making you queasy or sick: Nope

Have you started to show yet: Yep

Gender:  Girl

Labor Signs: No

Belly Button in or out? Still kind of flat.

Wedding rings on or off? On
, except for the day I forgot to put them on to begin with! 😉

Happy or Moody most of the time: Ugh, moody. We were pet sitting my parent’s dog for a bit this week and she was just driving me CRAZY.
Plus I have had absolutely zero patience this week. This is most evident by the number of yellow-turning-red lights I’ve ran, and my 1.5 hour commute home on Tuesday probably didn’t help.

Looking forward to: A somewhat relaxing weekend.

Baby Progress: Week 27

How far along? 27 weeks and officially in 3rd trimester

Total weight gain/loss: About 11 pounds I think? Last week I gained 2 so I guess I lost one of those. My weight has been fluctuating a bit so who knows.

Maternity clothes? Trying to cut back on maternity clothes purchases (I know, right when everything is just now starting to fit!), but I got this dress on sale from Target.

Stretch marks? Nope

Symptoms: Heartburn. Maybe her hair is growing? (or old wives tale…or read this medical publication I found while Googling!) Also some pelvic and tailbone pain when I stand up after sitting for a while. Welcome to 3rd trimester, I suppose!

Sleep:  Sleep has been OK, I just feel like I need a nap midday and I can’t fall back asleep after my bladder wakes me up early. I might as well permanently turn off my alarm clock.

Best moment this week:
It was a super busy/hectic week with things going on around the house. The nursery furniture was delivered and insurance approved our roof replacement!

Worst moment of the week: Well our granite counters were supposed to be installed, but we ran into an issue where our gas cooktop doesn’t haven’t an individual cut off valve (and $175 later, we had a handyman come out and install one — ouch…). Omg seriously who does that? Pretty sure it is against code. So we are basically without use of our kitchen sink and cooktop all weekend. Good thing we’ll be doing lots of grilling out and eating out for memorial day. I just hate having my house be a disaster zone for an extended period of time!

Have you told family and friends: Yes

Miss Anything? All of this being sleepy lately really had me in the mood for a nice cold frappucino. I guess I could get decaf but it’s not the same!

Movement: Constant dance party in there it seems. It makes me even MORE skeptical of those “I didn’t know I was pregnant” shows. She is moving non-stop and keeping me up at night and waking me up in the morning!

Food cravings: I got on a healthy kick this week and ate a few grilled chicken salads and had lots of fruit. I guess summer weather will do that.

Anything making you queasy or sick: Not really.

Have you started to show yet: Yes, and getting more frequent comments from strangers. I had a coworker stop me in the hallway (I never really officially announced myself at work beyond the small team I’m on) and he was like “soooo, you’re expecting, right?”. And then he gave me some great advice about not choosing a weird celebrity baby name. No problem, dude 🙂

Gender:  Girl

Labor Signs: No

Belly Button in or out? Still kind of half flat-ish, and half outie?

Wedding rings on or off? On

Happy or Moody most of the time: Happy
mostly, although I’ve been quite tired this week which tends to put me in a grouchy mood.

Looking forward to: Enjoying the 3-day weekend!

Baby Progress: 26 Weeks

How far along? 26 weeks, last week of 2nd trimester!

Total weight gain/loss: up 12 lbs

Maternity clothes? Got a few new things this week — a pair of denim shorts and a tank (that I can’t find online, but this one from Loft Maternity is very similar) from Macy’s/Pea in the Pod, and a simple black v-neck tee from Gap Maternity. This dress was also really cute on me, but was already a bit short in the front so I passed.

Stretch marks? Nope

Symptoms: Just a tiny bit of heartburn at night.

Sleep:  Fine, nothing new. I’m wrapping myself in a comforter burrito to simulate the Snoogle experience.

Best moment this week:
Can’t think of anything in particular…

Worst moment of the week: Confirmed at my appointment this week that I’m still on pelvic rest for placenta previa, and she is currently breech. That explains all of the very low kicking at least! Still plenty of time for things to move around to where they are supposed to, so I’ll get another ultrasound at my next appointment. But doctor appointments tend to put me in kind of a funk.

Have you told family and friends: Yes

Miss Anything? Nah

Movement: She’s all over the place and you can definitely see movement from the outside.

Food cravings: Nothing in particular.

Anything making you queasy or sick: No

Have you started to show yet: Yes

Gender:  Girl

Labor Signs: No

Belly Button in or out? On it’s way out. After eating I swear sometimes it feels like it’s going to fall off.

Wedding rings on or off? On

Happy or Moody most of the time: Happy

Looking forward to: It’s supposed to rain all weekend so I’m going to get to work on the nursery curtains. So really I’m looking forward to having those done, because I know it’s going to be a long and painful process!
