There were 2 things really bugging me about our living room setup — the ottoman and the lack of seating. I was planning on making a slipcover for the ottoman, but I was lacking the (very necessary) ability to sew and finding a solid fabric choice. And then the small settee bench that we bought last year was just never used. It was just too small. So 2 adults + a 65-pound dog sharing 1 couch gets a little…cozy. Here’s where we started…
Normally I wouldn’t re-decorate or re-furnish a room that is already furnished, especially since there are several empty rooms still in this house. But for somewhere that we spend a huge chunk of time I think is worth it to make it comfortable.
Here are the new pieces that were added:
Safavieh 9×12 Sisal Rug from Amazon — it’s available from Overstock too, but once again, Amazon had the better price (and I could use credit card points towards the final amount + 5% Chase Ultimate Rewards + Amazon was running a 10% off sale!)
IKEA Ektorp Chaise in Svanby Beige — IKEA had all Ektorp seating 15% off for IKEA Family members (which is just their version of a loyalty or rewards card, and does not require proof that you have or are in a family!). I wanted the solid white cover, but they were sold out. I’m a little afraid this chaise is being discontinued due to a sign I saw on the chair at IKEA this weekend. If so, there are a few internet outlets that sell IKEA slipcovers.
Safavieh Clark Cocktail Ottoman in Charcoal Brown (say that five times fast) from Overstock
And here is the now:
I love that little chaise. This is the perfect reading/nap time/laptop surfing/hot chocolate sipping spot.
The rug is moving into the dining room (hopefully working on that room next!) and everything else was just listed on Craigslist. Fingers crossed that stuff goes to a new home soon!
