One of my favorite Christmas gifts this year was the Nikon SB-700 Speedlight Flash.
I have no idea what I am doing with it, but it is fun learning so far. It seems to be the most effective bounced off a wall behind me. Here are some different shots to show the different angles. All of these are SOOC.
0 degrees, straight ahead:
75 degrees, pointing straight up (bouncing off the ceiling…this one is pretty under exposed because the ceilings are very tall in the foyer):
45 degrees, rotated and pointed the opposite direction:
No harsh shadows like the first one, and still getting fill light in the shadows under the eyes (unlike the 2nd one). Keep in mind that these were all taken at night with minimal ambient light.
This should definitely come in handy during the dark winter months!
